Do You Know How to Crochet?

So . . . do you?  If not, and you are local to the Arlington, Texas area, you might want to check out Jake's class out at UTA on Saturday mornings from April 14 to April 28.  I know what you're thinking . . . a guy teaching crochet?  You might be surprised to know that Jake makes some of the crochet items featured in the Dandylyon's Garden Etsy store.  He picked up the knack in part from his grandmother, and in part helping me out one time when we were on deadline.

Here's a picture of a scarf he made.  The piece was comissioned by a co-worker, and he designed the pattern after looking at an existing scarf.

Cooking for One?

Want some ideas for cooking solo without waste or excessive expense?  I'm going to be doing a class this Saturday out at The University of Texas, Arlington.

Dandylyon's Garden Now at Potager Cafe

Jake and I were out at Potager Cafe's 3rd annversary open house on Saturday.  Cynthia (the cafe's owner) was kind enough to lend us a bookcase to do our display.  Doesn't it look great?

If you're local to the Arlington, Texas area, and you've never been to Potager, you should definately check it out.  They do a chalk board menu featuring whatever Cynthia bought fresh at the Arlington Farmer's Market, and rather than give you huge servings on a pre-made plate, you ask the chef for the amount you think you will eat, and you pay for the value you feel you have recieved.  I've never gotten anything there that hasn't been amazing.  I talked to one of the chefs, who said she used to be the head pastry chef at the Modern, so of course the desserts are wonderful.

Plus, there's a new reason to head out.  Potager is expanding across the street (if you've been in Arlington for a while, it's the location that used to be Coffee Haus) onto what will be called Potager's Other Stuff.  They open offically some time next week.  In addition to coffee and home-made pastries, they're going to sell used books, organic groceries, and aromatherapy products.  AND -- drum roll please -- they are going to have herbal crafts from Dandylyon's Garden.  So far, it is just a smattering of products, but if you run out there and snap them up, I'm sure they will decide to carry more.  So far they have drier sachets and sleep pillows.  Plus, they will be carrying the quilt-front garden aprons.  Yeah!
